Modular Homes and more...

Modular Furniture

When most people think of the word modular, they think of modular homes. What they may not think about in this regard is furniture. In a very broad definition, modular furniture is furniture that is created using coordinated units or measurements for easy assembly and repair. It is furniture that is flexible as far as use and arrangement within a room.

In most cases, modular furniture is designed with the intent that they are assembled by the customer, and can be adapted based on room sizes and personal needs. These furniture systems are often easily modified over time as needs and preferences change. You may have seen entire homes beautifully decorated in modular furniture without even knowing it.

Children’s Rooms
You may not immediately think of it in these terms, but a lot of the furnishings in a nursery or child’s bedroom are modular. Most cribs are made to be put together in the very room your baby will sleep. It’s becoming more and more common for that same crib to be easily modified a few years down the road to a toddler bed or even a twin.

Cribs and toddler beds aren’t the only furnishings that can be revised based on the changing needs of children. As a child grows, so will his storage needs. Book cases and other storage units such as toy cupboards and boxes can be easily rearranged and modified with modular furniture systems to grow with their interests and preferences.

Living and Dining Rooms
An advantage to most modular furniture is that often the lines that are offered by companies are coordinated. A dining room table and chairs’ design and look flows easily into the style and finish of a living room’s coffee table and entertainment unit. Again, pieces are more easily modified to fit the needs of a room or group of rooms, and coordinating one area with another gives your home more of a designer feel.

Office Furniture
Desks and other office furnishings are probably the most common form of modular furniture. From computer desks to filing cabinets and book cases, whether you work from home or at an office, it’s likely that the furnishing were assembled on site. Again, a great benefit is that furnishings like these are easily modified to changing office space and needs.

Like modular homes, high quality modular furniture lines are constructed and inspected several times before the products are delivered to a showroom or home. Because a factory setting like this dictates that the pieces are generated on mass production lines, manufacturing costs are lower, despite the fact that quality is high.

The bottom line is that good modular furniture companies are in the business to create the very best products at a reasonable cost that can be modified to your changing needs.
